One of the scriptures that I meditate on often as it regards to building a Christian home is in the book of Proverbs.
Proverbs 22:6 (ESV): "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."
Every parent knows that at some point, your kids are going to leave the nest.
As much as we want to protect them forever, this is not realistic. Thus, our main assignment as parents is preparing our children for that day where they will inevitably leave the nest.
Whether it’s going off to school for the first time, or moving out to start life on their own, the mission is the same. To lay a strong foundation that will keep them grounded throughout their lives.
When they do, we want them to have a strong foundation that will guide them throughout their lives.
It’s important as Christians to build a Godly environment at home because this will help to instill the right values in your children.
We can teach our children important principles such as love, kindness, compassion, and integrity. By incorporating these values into their daily lives, you help them develop a strong moral compass that will guide them in making good choices as they go into the world.
Creating a Safe and Loving Environment
A Christian home should be a safe and loving environment for children to grow and thrive. It is essential to create an atmosphere where children feel accepted, valued, and loved unconditionally. By demonstrating love and respect towards one another, parents can teach their children the importance of healthy relationships and provide them with a solid foundation for their own future families.

Here are 10 ways to build a Christian home for your kids.
1. Choose To Make God The Centre Of Your home
We all have free choice. And as parents, we make the important decision of how we want our homes to run. Joshua 24:15 is a popular and often quoted verse where Joshua makes a declaration of his commitment to serve the Lord. It also acts as an encouragement to believers to make a similar choice.
Joshua 24:15 (ESV) And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
A deliberate and unwavering commitment to serving God and is the first step when it comes to building a Godly home.
Invite God’s Spirit to come into your home and dwell in your home.
2. Practice Regular Family Devotions
One way to build a Christian home is by practicing regular family devotions.
These devotional times provide an opportunity for prayer, reading the Bible, and discussing spiritual matters as a family.
Just as physical food nourishes our bodies, the Word of God nourishes our souls. By regularly exposing your children to the Bible, you are providing them with spiritual sustenance that will guide them throughout their lives.
Teach your children the word of God. Encourage open dialogue and conversations about the stories. Think of ways to incorporate the stories and lessons into daily life.
This is what living a Christ centred life is all about anyways. Not just memorizing scripture, but allowing the principles to guide your day to day lives.
The more you engage in these activities as a family, you can deepen your children’s understanding of their faith and create an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and seeking guidance.
3. Encourage Prayer
Prayer is a vital aspect of every Christian’s life.
By encouraging your children to develop a personal relationship with God through prayer and, you are nurturing their faith and teaching them how to communicate with their Heavenly Father.
Set aside time for prayer with your children. You can create a routine where you gather together to pray, every morning before you leave the house. This can be incorporated into your morning routine.
You can also make prayer a part of the evening routine by saying a prayer before you tuck your kids into bed at night.
It can even be a quick prayer of thanks before you have dinner as a family.
You can also encourage prayer at random moments throughout the day. This teaches the children that prayer isn’t just reserved for when we need something from God. Prayer can be a reminder that God is with us all the time. Even when we don’t see him and it doesn’t feel like it.

Another cornerstones of building a godly home is to create an atmosphere where praise and worship are central.
By infusing your home with praise and worship, you cultivate an environment where faith is not just a Sunday ritual but an integral part of your daily life.
Whether it’s through worship songs, hymns, reading scripture, or simply expressing gratitude for the blessings in your lives, these acts of worship not only strengthen your family’s connection to God but also reinforce the values and beliefs you hold dear.

As parents, one of the greatest responsibilities we have is to set a positive example for our children.
Believe it or not, you have a tremendous influence on your children shaping their values, habits, and attitudes towards life.
Your actions speak louder than words.
Simply put, your kids are watching and listening.
You need to demonstrate the kind of behaviour you want them to emulate.
If you want them to develop positive traits such as kindness, respect, and empathy, you must embody these qualities yourself.

Curiosity is a precious gift that can be a driving force in building a godly home.

When you welcome curiosity, you foster an environment where your children feel safe to come to you with their questions, concerns and maybe even doubts about faith. We want our children to create an atmosphere in a Godly home where our children feel heard and understood.
After all, Faith is not just a set of rules to follow but a journey of discovery. Inquisitive minds often lead to profound insights and a stronger, more genuine connection to God.
7. Encourage Active Participation in Service and Outreach
Faith without action is incomplete.
You can encourage your children to actively engage in age appropriate service and outreach to others.
This not only teaches them the value of selflessness, compassion, and sharing God’s love with those in need, it also provides them with a sense of belonging to a larger community.
Look for opportunities to volunteer as a family, whether it be at a local shelter, community event, or church ministry.

Remember that shielding your children from negative influences doesn’t mean isolating them from the world. It about providing them with the tools and guidance they need to navigate the world’s challenges while staying true to their faith.

They say iron sharpens iron. In the journey of living out our Christian faith, the company we keep can play a profound role in shaping our lives.
Having kids has really made more intentional about the friends that we keep.
I want to surround myself with people who share a similar value to me, with hopes that our children will grow up with similar values.
Not only this, it’s important to find friends that you can trust with your kids.
Whether in moments of joy or adversity, having Christian family friends by your side can also be a source of strength, guidance, and a reminder that you’re not walking this path alone.
10. Pray Scripture Over Your Children
Last, but certainly not least is a reminder to pray God’s word over your children.
This is one of the greatest gifts that you can give your children as a parent.
You should never feel like you are alone in raising Godly children. By praying scripture over your children’s lives, you are standing in agreement with God and his promises concerning your children.
